HP officials said SDN controller open source is a mistake

During the New York Interop exhibition, HP HP JC102A  officials said, some manufacturers such as Juniper, the open source SDN controller is a mistake strategy.

HP released the new SDN SDK and the app store in the New York during the Interop show,when asked why not HP like Juniper and OpenDaylight, an obvious tendency to follow the industry, also is to let SDN controller source, for the user to use free of charge, HP officialsmade the above remarks.

HP network vice president of global marketing Mike Banic said, "manufacturers will controlleropen source is wrong, because the firm must solve for enterprise level SDN scheme isvalidated and provide services. Juniper is lost in his own value."

HP said, to the application of SDN controller is the value to realize the automation ofoperation under the SDN environment, adjust the network operation to meet the application requirements. SDN controller source is to ensure the function, reliability and performance ofthe enterprise burden onto the user.

But Juniper says the Contrail SDN controller, it also has a commercial version, and the company will provide integrated services and technical support fee. And the open sourceversion of Contrail is available only to upgrade service.

If Juniper and HP have much in common in terms of SDN's words, that is neither clearcustomers in the open source SDN controller where, when and why to use OpenDaylightand its framework. Although the two companies are members of the OpenDaylight (Juniperis the highest level of Platinum members), but both sides against the other party potential effects in the client SDN deployment on a contemptuous disregard.

"I don't know why customers are using the OpenDaylight controller," HP senior vice president and general manager Bethany Mayer says HP network. "The use of open source controller in the enterprise may be difficult, risky."
